Commissions: Do you want a special painting?
1. Personal Style and Approach
To understand my personal style, I encourage you to visit
my website: paintingsbyjanet.ca.
I use my own photographs to inspire my work, as I'm particularly drawn to images
with unique lighting and distinct lines. My work often reflects my affinity
for these elements, and this deeply influences the way I approach commissioned pieces based on my photographs.
2. Client Involvement and Satisfaction
Ensuring that my clients are actively involved and satisfied with their commission is a top priority. Here are the steps I take:
a. Extensive initial discussion to ascertain all details of what the client desires, including size, preferred colours, and colours to avoid.
b. Offer choices between watercolours and acrylics.
c. Provide framing arrangements if requested.
d. Discuss and agree upon the price ahead of time, with detailed written confirmation often exchanged via email.
e. Upon completion, I send an image of the painting to the client to gather feedback and confirm satisfaction.
3. Preferred Themes and Subjects
I primarily use my own photographs for commissions, I have particular preferences and specializations. I am willing to discuss other options.
a. West coast British Columbia including Haida Gwaii
b. Locations that hold special meaning for the client. We have travelled extensively and may photos that would work for you.
c. Interior lakes and forests of British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan
d. Themes involving water and trees, etc.
4. Terms and Conditions
a. Pricing: The price is dependent on the size of the painting. Commissions are slightly more expensive than my pre-existing works.
:b. Timelines: I meet deadlines set by clients, especially for special occasions like birthdays, weddings, or Christmas, provided there is adequate lead time. It takes about two weeks to do a large painting but it will depend on what commissions I already have and your deadline. I also need to be at home and available to paint.
c. Revisions: Clients can request minor revisions to ensure they are fully satisfied. It is paramount that the client loves the final painting.
d. Ownership and Copyright: Once the painting is completed, the client owns it, while I retain the copyright. Deeply personal commissions will not be posted on my website.
5. Additional Information
I receive heartfelt feedback from my clients, and it is immensely gratifying to know that my work brings joy to their lives. Here is one such comment:
"My gifted friend, your painting just takes my breath away and brightens and beautifies this music/study open room and this part of the house so much! It is seen as you walk into the house, from the living room, dining room and the eating room off the kitchen where I and company do all our eating. So your vibrant colours capturing the ocean, mountains, sky and islands bring such life and beauty to my home and soul that, again, I don’t know how to thank you. Can I send the e-transfer to the email that you’ve used to communicate with me? My deep thanks."
