“Cedar Waxwing Among the Colours” SOLD 20” x 20” Acrylic on Canvas
We grew up knowing the names of the birds. We didn’t always have all the details correct and would wonder if it was a Cedar Waxwing or a Bohemian Waxwing, but we knew it was a waxwing. Those of you that know birds will enjoy this story. I sent a photo of this image with the title ‘Waxwing’ to my two sister-in-laws, one in England and one in North Van. Their responses created a chuckle. Deb, in London, wondered if I had used a wax-encaustic approach to the painting, never guessing that waxwing was the name of the bird. Deb is in Art School in London so knows all about using wax in encaustic paintings. I had a similar comment from Di, in Vancouver, wondering how I had used the wax to create the image. I think there was a also a comment about ‘waxing’ my legs. Those sisters! Love them! Yes, this is a Cedar Waxwing. They usually fly in flocks. You often find them on the Mountain Ash trees eating the berries in the winter. Beautiful birds.
This painting now hangs in Saskatoon at my dear friend Mar’s.
