“At Anchor” is one of my recent acrylic paintings. (24” x 12”) It brings back such wonderful memories of our time in Tenedos Bay in Desolation Sound this past summer. KalaKala, the beautiful Benateau we chartered from Nanaimo Yacht Charters is ‘at anchor’.
My husband, Dave and I spent a couple of nights here to ride out the October storm. I painted as the wind whistled around us and tried to urge the KalaKala to pull up her anchor and come and ‘play.’ The KalaKala would have no part of it and stayed anchored firmly. I am not sure which I love more, sailing or painting, so when I can do both it is indeed, a treat.
I was feeling very confident as a sailor this trip, as I had just completed a Five Day All Women Sailing Course to earn my Skipper’s Certification. Marla Hedman was our instructor with ‘Nanaimo Yacht Charters and Sailing School.’ If you have ever spent time on boat with Marla you know that she has a wealth of knowledge and experience that she generously shares. I had a few opportunities to share some of these with my husband who in turn, graciously listened and learned.
